Types of temperature measuring instruments and how to choose

Choose an instrument based on what you need to measure, the environment and the results required.
Common instrument types
Probe thermometers measure by contact; infrared devices measure surface temperature without contact; data loggers record measurements over time. Temperature and humidity meters, dial thermometers and liquid-in-glass thermometers serve other applications.
Choose a suitable measuring range, probe, accuracy and calibration points. Infrared readings depend on surface properties and measurement spot size.

Choosing and calibrating
Specify the instrument, probe, working temperatures and acceptance criteria. Ask SK to confirm the applicable service and accredited scope before ordering.
FAQ
Does an infrared thermometer measure the core temperature of food?
It generally measures surface temperature. Use an appropriate penetration probe for the interior.
